Anais Nin book inscribed by Rupert Pole returned to owner after decades.

This is the story of the power of connection. Perhaps coincidences are are incidents that coincide.

Shelly Raber wrote to ask if I could connect her to Maryanne Rafael. She had a book titled “Linotte: The Early Diary Diary of Anais Nin 1914-1920”. There was an inscription written in red marker that read: “For Maryanne, The First Diary.” Anais said “I can’t believe I didn’t write it in English. With Love, Rupert. Sept, 1980”.

Shelly picked this book up years ago at the Goodwill and later noticed the inscription. Was it indeed a signed copy by Rupert Pole? It did turn out to be Maryanne’s book and Shelly returned it to her.

Shelly wrote to me saying, “Thank you so much for your help in getting into contact with her. Without your help, I’m not sure I would have found her. Best of life to you!”

  1. What a wonderful story. A quiet one. That means a lot to each of the people involved, yourself included. You were the bridge that allowed the book to be returned home.

  2. Janean,

Yes. Spot on. Since my mission is connection…and since my model for time and effort is that all meanders back to us…this story really touches my heart.

Don’t hit the snooze button when you get the wake-up call.

Sometimes the call is coincidence. Aside from it being meaningful (it can look like luck, or a premonition), coincidence has another purpose: to remind the one experiencing it that there are grand transcendental forces at work, which leads to the goal—understanding.

  4. Eden,

Yes! Transcendent forces revealed through the small moments in daily life. Where else?
