Robert Powell, Executive Director of Portfolio Gallery & Educational Center, alerted me today to a current group exhibit at the gallery titled “Visual Thoughts,” featuring many of Missouri’s finest artists. All these artists recently showed at the National Urban League convention where I met several fine artists.
“St. Louis and Kansas City have outstanding artists,” said Robert. “You don’t have to go to New York to find great art.” And, I might add, at outstanding prices.
The “Visual Thoughts” exhibit has it all: paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, textiles, pottery and mixed media pieces that explore the thoughts and concerns of the African-American artist. The art of the exhibit draws on the thoughts of life of artists living in Missouri, Kansas, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Africa.
Featured artists in the Portfolio exhibit include artists such as Dean Mitchell, Lonnie Powell, Ronald Johnson, Thomas Sleet, C-babi Bayoc, Anthony High, Kenneth Calvert, Joy Wade, Perry Green, and Joseph Smith.
William Burton, Jr. shows several pieces, including “Black Wings (24″ x 48″,pyrography, mixed media on wood, $2,380.00).

This is really a great show that is a must see for all art lovers and collectors. If you like New York artist you will love these Mid-west artist who stayed in the area. The prices of the original art are better at Portfolio Gallery also.
