Yvonne Perry and I have been blogging buddies since 2006 when she featured my book "Sightlines: A Poet's Diary" on a Writers in the Sky podcast. Search Riehlife for archives about Yvonne Perry by typing her name in the search box. We finally met in person during my audio book launch in Nashville.

Her new book "Whose Stuff Is It Anyway?" explores how to "Find Freedom from the Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You, with ways to stay emotionally healthy in am over-stimulating world."a

Here's what people are saying about Yvonne's book.

__________________

Humans are connected in many ways: the air we breathe, our basic needs and physiology, and energetically/spiritually. No one feels the power of this connection more than the energy-sensitive people, known as empaths, who unknowingly pick up on the detrimental thoughts, feelings, and even the illnesses of others and their environment.

Many carry this negativity as if it were their own. In fact, some empaths are so burdened with the energy of others, they are no longer aware of what their own energy feels like. Mysterious illnesses, anxiety attacks, hearing voices, seeing shadows, feeling negative, fearful, anger, or having an impending sense of dread— you name it, they feel it. And most empathic people have no idea where this stuff is coming from.

“Around your physical body, there is a magnetic shield of energy known as your aura. Its purpose is to provide protection and gather energy and information as you interface with your environment. In grade school, we were taught to keep our hands to ourselves. The same is true with the energy field surrounding our body,” writes Nashville author Yvonne Perry in her new book, WHOSE STUFF IS THIS?

Finding Freedom from the Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You.“Ideally, your energy field should be kept two to three feet from your body, but many untrained empaths unknowingly allow their aura to extend and blend with the energy fields of others who have lax boundaries around their auras.

When empathic people tap into the thoughts or emotional impulses of another person, the intuitive gift of empathy (much stronger than heart-felt compassion) reaches in and absorbs energy in an effort to heal or ‘fix’ whatever is out of sync. In doing so, the empath can become contaminated with unhealthy energy. Unfortunately, most of them do not know how to clear the psychic clutter in their auric field.”

Yvonne is joined by psychotherapist Dr. Caron B. Goode, ED.D., NCC, DAPA to provide a fresh perspective on the psychological aspect of empathy and intuition. “Some of the characteristics that empaths display can also be diagnosed as ADD, agoraphobia, bipolar disorder, or clinical depression,” says Caron. “Most doctors and counselors are not aware that empathy fatigue exists, much less how to treat it, but this intuitive overload is a very real problem to energy-sensitive people.” Caron is the author of The Art & Science of Coaching Parents, Raising Intuitive Children, and Kids Who See Ghosts - Guide Them Through Their Fears.

“Yvonne Perry's book thoroughly explains the process of being an empath in today's world. She provides cognitive, emotional, physical, energetic, and spiritual explanations for the origin of deep empathy, while sharing her own amazing story and the stories of others,” says transformational coach Gini Grey.

“This book offers an array of powerful techniques to help empathic people create healthy boundaries, stay balanced, and release other people's energy and emotions from their personal space. This book is a must read for anyone and everyone who is sensitive to the thoughts, moods and problems of those around them.” Gini is the author of FROM CHAOS TO CALM: How to Shift Unhealthy Stress Patterns and Create Your Own Balance in Life.

ABOUT YVONNE PERRY

Yvonne is a graduate of American Institute of Holistic Theology where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Metaphysics. For years she was enmeshed with the dogma of religion that her family and church leaders passed down to her.

Before she had a label to put on her empathetic ability, she called herself an intercessor. While praying for others she empathically took on their suffering until it severely challenged her emotional and physical health. Embracing a totally different path and belief system, she now openly uses the gift of empathy to help others heal their lives.

It's a blog tour!

Yvonne Perry is a freelance writer and editor who owner Writers in the Sky Creative Writing Services based in Nashville, Tennessee. As a ghostwriter, Yvonne has written books for many clients. The Sid Series is the fourth print book she's published. She's written fifteen e-books, and credits 40 books to her writing and editing roster.

I'd known Yvonne for several years before meeting her in person in 2008 when I recorded "Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music." Yvonne's son-in-law, Scott Kidd, became my audio engineer and project point person as we produced the audio book.

Yvonne wrote The Sid Series, a book of twelve character-building stories aimed towards children raised in a spiritually-open and accepting environment. You can read more about each story, view an excerpt in flip book style, purchase a copy of The Side Series on the book's web site. Amazon will have the book in later this month.

Yvonne is available to answer other questions anyone has about the book, her grandson, spiritual gifts, and her writing, publishing, and marketing experience.

My interview with Yvonne is one stop on her blog tour for "The Sid Series." You can find the entire schedule here.

--JGR
____________________

Janet: Yvonne, what inspired you to write this book?

Yvonne: My grandson, Sidney, is the main character. I had written stories for my children when they were little mainly to help me remember some of the cute things they said and did. It was only natural that I wrote about things I did with Sid when he was very young.

But, Sidney was displaying such spiritually advanced qualities that this little boy who called himself an “old soul” soon became my teacher! The book is all about Sidney, yet the stories and illustrations are applicable to any child regardless of whether he or she is exhibiting supernatural gifts.

Janet: I understand that these twelve stories were written individually as they evolved over a period of five years. Any interesting tidbits about your writing method or how the book developed?

Yvonne: Other than write them, I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do with the stories. I drew a few sketches just to let out some creative steam and make the book more enjoyable for Sidney. He loved the fact that I was writing stories about him. By the time he was seven, he became my co-writer as he dictated stories to me as I typed.

Janet: What are your beliefs about children such as your grandson Sid?

Yvonne: Sid represents a group of crystal kids who are coming into this earth plane already having supernatural powers and spiritual intellect. He communicated with me telepathically from the time he was born. I sensed his spirit around me even when he was not physically present. He was on my mind so much some days that I would call his mom, Amanda, to see what was up. These were usually the days Amanda said that Sid had been calling my name, or talking to her about me, or asking to come see me. Amanda has been a strong spiritual influence in my life, and the perfect mom for a crystal kid.

Janet: What were some of the ways you knew that Sid had special gifts?

Yvonne: At about age nine months, Sid clearly and repeatedly spoke the name Hannah for several hours while he was with me. I finally called Amanda and asked “Who is Hannah?” She said, “Hannah is a baby who needs prayers of protection.” She and I prayed for Hannah. Later that week, we learned that family and children’s services had taken Hannah from her abusive mother.

Sid shocked me by channeling his higher self when we were driving down the road. He was about three years old at the time. In mid conversation, his mannerism changed and he began to speak with the vocabulary of an adult and told me that he was the soul who had tried to be born through me when I miscarried in 1979.

You’d better believe that got my attention, but it did not scare me. I’ve had some unusual spiritual experiences myself! I’m thankful to have the ability to understand and direct Sidney in the development of his spiritual gifts.

Janet: My readers, many of them writers, are always interested in book publishing stories. Tell me about your publishing experience and what you learned from it.

Yvonne: I self-published The Sid Series through my own publishing company, Write On!, and used Lightning Source to print the book. This gave me distribution through Ingram. I learned that I needed to print out the book before uploading my files. When my proof copy came in the mail, I couldn’t believe how many formatting and layout errors it contained. My graphic designer had to change something on nearly every page.

Janet: How have you promoted your book? Any sites to recommend?

Yvonne: This blog tour is the main way I am getting the word out, but I’m using Twitter, Facebook, email, my newsletter, my own blog, Shelfari, Goodreads, and other social networks to drive traffic to the blog stops.

Janet: What advice might you give to parents and teachers?

Yvonne: If they have crystal children like Sid in their lives, I'd say: "Learn all you can about the gifts these kids are bringing in. Help them learn to use their power to create a better world."

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to chat about my book and my grandson.

The last step in producing an audio book is to celebrate! That's what my Nashville Production team did with me at the Sportsman Bar and Grille this week. It looks like a theme park version of those grand old WPA (Works Progress Administration) lodges in the great parks like Yellowstone and Yosemite. The food was pretty good. Best of all, it was just across the street from the place I was staying.

Our surprise guest was Suzy Bogguss, one of the country-western stars in the music city firmanment As a veteran of so many albumns and singles, I'm sure she's been to launch parties full of sparkle over the years. This was was homey. Suzy and I sat together and got to know each other. We'd never met before. We also got caught up about family relationships and stories. She was born in Aledo, Illinois, with her birthdate just a day after mine in December 30. Her mother Barbara Bogguss is a marvelous musician and played with my father at a 1938 family reunion that Daddy still recalls as a highlight in his life. Suzy is married to songwriter Doug Crider. Their son Ben is soon to be one of those young Eagle Scouts, as my brother Gary was.

Scott Kidd, my sound engineer and project manager came with his wife Sareya. Yvonne Perry, is Sareya's mother. She had introduced me to Scott last year.

I'd never met Greg McNey before. He took care of all our licensing and copyrighting requirements. I'd known he was a consummate professional and learned here that he was also a consummate gentleman. Greg introduced us to his friend Laura Neutzling who is chief visionary at Four Eyes Media. Sounds like a wonderful job, no? They spoke afterward how nice it is to watch someone pursue a dream or desire and see it to completion and were glad to have been a part of that.

Earlier in the day Scott Kidd and I started working on our newest project of making video logs as part of our launch. Hal Manogue, who couldn't be with us that night met me earlier in the day at the Whole Foods Deli where we taped an audio interview. He read the introduction for "Sightlines" audio book.

After dinner we did more interviews as part of the video logs for the launch.

You'll be hearing more about the videologs soon!

Last May we began the long journey of making our audio book "Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music." Here's the post from that time describing my drive down from St. Louis the Nashville.

A year later, it's still a long drive in the country (albeit on freeways) and a pretty one, to boot. The drive from St. Louis to Nashville (routes 64/57/24) takes around 5.5 hours and crosses three rivers (Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee) and passes by many gorgeous large lakes (Rend/Egypt/Barkley) where I wanted to just stop and camp. The routes down are so aesthetically constructed without billboards and with so much foliage embracing the roadway, that it feels like a highspeed Sunday afternoon drive in the country...which is what it was.

I knew I'd reached Southland in S. Illinois when I saw fried gizzards, fried bologni, and b-b-q ribs advertised.

Last year I stayed at the trendy Hotel Indigo. This year at the more budget-conscious Red Roof Inn, getting the senior rate through AARP. I chose this location because it's right across from the Sportman Grill and Lodge where we'll celebrate Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music tomorrow night.

Yvonne Perry, one of my blogging buddies I'd come to visit then, led me to Scott Kidd who became my sound engineer. Here's Yvonne's post on Writers in the Sky on my May Nashville visit..

Those of you who went to Sunday School will recognize my play on words with the beattitudes (be-attitudes). Coming back from such a sea-change trip, I wanted to count some blessings I received on home ground in this post. In another post, I'll count blessings footloose and abroad.

1) Send-off Dinner. Before I left, Doreen Hulsey and her fascinating family (including longtime piano teacher) invited me for a going away supper to send me off. I know Doreen through the St. Louis Writers Guild and the Ethical Society.

2) Homecoming Dinner. Upon my return, Liz Sommers and her husband Kevin E. invited me to a welcome home dinner. They both worked for the anti-apartheid movement and asked such intelligent questions, listened so intently, and threw in such great stories of union organizing that it made for a rapt evening in Madison, Illinois.

3) Root Canal. Am I crazy? Maybe. But, I'm so grateful that tooth #20 waited a week to send me signals of excrutiating pain. I hadn't been to the dentist since my move from Northern California a year ago June. Finally, I got dental insurance through Authors Guild on the basis of my literary journal publications. It's gonna save me a bundle now! Plaza Dental got me right in and fixed me right up. I like the folks over there. Nice feeling and ambiance. They even let me wear the lead apron for my security blanket. I like the weight.

4) New Review of Sightlines. Gregory Robson, at Resident Media Pundit, posted a review of "Sightlines: A Poet's Diary"

5) Blogging Award? Yvonne Perry's Writers in the Sky honored me with the Brillante Weblog Premio Blogging Award saying,

Janet Riehl's blog http://www.riehlife.com/ has a wide variety of topics as she takes us all over the world with her poetic writing and daily insights. Her literary journey is dotted with photos, clip art, and useful links to other people's work. She has a great list of resources, too! Her blog is interactive and invites a lot of comments.

I investigated a little further and found that the award was more in the way of a game bloggers play...a blogging meme...rather than a full-fledged award. You can read about this in two excellent posts here: Museum of Hoaxes and Heart and Hands.

When I shared this information with Yvonne, she thought maybe I would be offended or she ought to take it off her blog. I said, "No, the award, coming from you, is a real award." It reveals something interesting about the blogging and internet culture...about memes and the awards game in general.

6) Art patronage on the move. Joseph La Marque came over to install the finished mounts for Lloyd Kleine Harvey's delicate and elegant twig sculptures. We are experimenting with ways to make Lloyd's work more stable and attractive to collector's. I think we have some winners here. Joseph La Marque is an artist in his own right, and when he does work in support of other artists, his minimalist aesthetic and knack for the simple solution comes into play wonderfully. We're viewing these mounts as prototypes for Lloyd to use when he exhibits his work with the Regional Arts Commission...and are thinking he might even use the mounts as he's making the work. We'll see what Lloyd thinks soon.

7) Audiobook nearing final stages. "Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music" is now in in the homestretch of applying for mechanical licenses for the music used on the four discs that are still in public domain, copyrighting my father's songs, and making decisions about packaging and quantities. Hoping for a release in early October. We'll see. Scott Kidd was the audio engineer on the album and now is my point person/project manager who's been a godsend. Scott has a compatible way of thinking and working that's pure pleasure.

Family Poetry Book. My father's been busy while I've been gone. Soon he'll be giving me the files for our next book project: "Worth Remembering: The Poetry" which is an anthology of his poetry, family and friends poetry. Poetry books are a bear to do as the must be spaced properly. Oh, for the novels!

And you, dear readers? What are your be-gratitudes?
