I wonder how many people are aware that these little custodians of our world are required to open the petals of the peony flower. Every spring when ants march in to challenge my humanistic spirit all around the kitchen, I quell my killer intinct with the memory of how necessary these critters are to the beauty of the bloom on my peony plants.
